Myrtle Beach, SC. I’ve recently become slightly addicted to the crazy “National Themed Days” the no one really knows who dubbed the day in the first place. If you didn’t know National Cheese Day was a few days ago and I didn’t find out about it in time to make any true plans for the day, but I saw National Moonshine Day coming up today on June 5th and knew I had to figure something out.

Luckily living in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina there are a few places you can get legal moonshine in the area. The problem is you have to get to them before they close. Technically, Fiona and I got to Palmetto Moonshine Distillery before they closed at 7pm, however the last tasting is at 6:15pm. So we wandered around the store and I ended up buying one of their Apple Pie Moonshines which I’ve had in the past so I know I won’t be disappointed.

We did try to find somewhere close by that served moonshine, but the only place the employees at Palmetto Moonshine Distillery knew for sure had moonshine cocktails was Stillhouse BBQ. They suggested a restaurant nearby, but when we got there they didn’t end up having any moonshine drinks at all. So, we may have mostly failed at our attempt at drinking moonshine tonight, but we know better for next time.

So anyone visiting Myrtle Beach and wants to try some moonshine. Make sure to check out Palmetto Moonshine Distillery, Monday through Saturday and they have tastings for $5 from 10:30am to 6:15pm. Its a great deal if you can get there on time.

If you want to have some food and moonshine cocktails, I’d suggest Stillhouse BBQ, because no only do they have delicious BBQ, they also have amazing cocktails. They have two locations – one at Tanger Outlets and one at Barefoot Landing. As an extra tip, currently on their website on the menu page you can get a 10% off coupon, or if you get one of the free Coupon books you see everywhere around Myrtle Beach they also have the same coupon. When we were there I got a Caramel Apple Moonshine Cocktail, which was deceptively strong and I had no complaints about the taste. For BBQ they also make moonshine bbq sauce if you want to try the moonshine taste without the alcohol buzz.

 

One thing to keep an eye out for is an event called Coastal Uncorked, which runs usually at the end of August has one night for just moonshine tasting. I did, however, see a Facebook post on their official page that it was postponed for this year, but I’d follow the page just in case because I loved this event last year.
